Impromptu Speaking Workshop
Description: Can you think and speak on your feet with confidence? Everyone makes impromptu speeches, but not everyone is effective or good at it. Impromptu speaking is something that everyone does constantly--at home, in the community, and at work--in business, social, and interpersonal contexts. For example, you do it in response to a question, when asked to offer an opinion, during a conversation, during interviews, and at meetings. Job interviews and college admittance interviews are well-known high-stakes examples where impromptu skills can make a difference in getting a yes or a no. Impromptu speaking is also used in sales, persuasion, negotiations, conflict resolution, and active listening. If handled correctly, it can diffuse verbal criticism; handled incorrectly it can worsen the situation. In this workshop you will learn tried and successful techniques for impromptu speaking; you will have the opportunity to practices in class and receive immediate personalized feedback; and you learn what works well and what to improve by observing others and listening to the evaluations.
